Affordability in Quebec
Affordability measures the difference between average rents (CMHC) and maximum affordable monthly rents calculated from median incomes (StatsCan). For 2+ person households, the affordability calculation indicates that most cities show substantial gaps between affordable rents and average rents, meaning on average households will be able to afford rental housing within 30% of their incomes. Gatineau, Saguenay, and Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu show the largest affordability gaps.
